In an era constantly reshaped by data, do we still understand the world through our own scale, or have we entered a reality orchestrated by algorithms? [Millimeter Universe] unfolds from here: when the universe is translated into computable units, human perception and cognition are being re-encoded.

The 5+1 GALLERY's current exhibition brings together three series of works by artist Zhan Yan. Starting from "millimeter", it transforms measurement into a methodology. Rulers and scales no longer point to length but become the language for constructing order. Through repetition and arrangement, he translates space into a mathematical matrix, presenting reality as a system that can be read and calculated. Within this structure, rational order and individual experience form a tension: when everything is regulated by a unified scale, does subjective perception still hold validity?

The mechanical device extends this logic to the physical level. The pursuer gradually disintegrates into alloys and power systems during movement, eventually transforming into an interstellar device. The embedded imaging system generates visuals through AI, extending this process into a continuous perceptual experience - fingertips flicker into starlight, the earth turns into a gravitational field, and the heart is replaced by a pulse engine. Here, the body is no longer a stable organic whole but becomes a structural model that can be disassembled, reassembled, and constantly upgraded, metaphorically representing the translation of humans from biological entities to mechanical-data entities in a technological context.

The "Eye" device points to the structure of consciousness. The shape derived from the pineal gland is reconfigured as a cybernetic organ, with AI-generated dream images embedded in the pupil, and mechanical eyelids that simulate the circadian rhythm to close, transforming dreams from an internal experience into a generative data interface. The pineal gland, as the "harbor of the soul", is here translated by artist Zhan Yan into a digital interface of a technical interface: dreams are no longer an intangible internal experience, but become generative and recyclable visual data. It suggests that consciousness is being captured and reorganized by external systems.

AI imaging further extends this structure to the cosmic scale, allowing the microscopic "millimeter" and macroscopic imagination to converge within the same algorithmic framework. Reality is no longer the sum of experiences but becomes a model that can be generated and revised.

[Millimeter Universe] is not about precision, but about redefining scale and cognition. When everything can be calculated, humans are also ceding the right to explain the world and themselves. The exhibition thus poses a core question: In an algorithm-dominated reality, do we still have the ability to define existence?
